Black Hole 06:12
BLACK HOLE lyrics by Mark Steiner Where does your universe start and end? Where does your past meet the present, and will it ever end? Was it a tragedy when they tried to steal your soul Was it mind over matter when they seized control There’s a black hole tearing at the sun There’s a black hole tearing at the sun There’s a black hole tearing at the sun Make it all undone A strange calamity when they took you in They pointed with their fingers like you committed a sin Your gave your trust, they took away your freedom Locked you up, left you to rot in that dark prison There’s a black hole tearing at the sun There’s a black hole tearing at the sun There’s a black hole tearing at the sun Make it all undone Lost in a nebula, they left you for blind Somehow you found the key and made it back outside Like a comet you made your way back around Your head up in the clouds, your feet down on the ground There’s a black hole tearing at the sun There’s a black hole tearing at the sun There’s a black hole tearing at the sun Now you’ve won

Insomnia 04:04 video
INSOMNIA Words & music by Mark Steiner Well I'm sleeping, I'm dreaming Still waking up to you The clock just keeps on ticking I don't know what to do Lights off now, in the darkness I smell your cheap perfume Lights on now, I'm blinded Can't see this empty room Insomnia (I can't sleep) Your sorrow, my blanket Covers up all the pain The silence in this bedroom No longer feels the same I open the curtains A glowing light pours in The moonlight like a spotlight Revealing everything Insomnia - I can't sleep now Insomnia - I can't dream now Your pillow is dried up Now that my tears are gone However, I still wonder Where did we go so wrong Insomnia - I can't sleep now Insomnia - in too deep now I try sleeping, I'm still dreaming Waking up to the thought of you The clock just keeps on ticking ©2018, 2024

FEELS LIKE HOME lyrics by Mark Steiner You found me in the gutter Face down in the street Been beaten up and beaten down The future seemed so bleak You took me to some shelter Brought me under your wing But I kept getting restless ‘Cause I can never win Feels like home Feels like home I’ve been stabbed in the back now One too many times Ignited by the intrigue You said that you were mine Then began the sickness Or was it something in my drink I kept seeing fallen angels As I began to sink Feels like home Feels like home You left me at the altar Bleeding at the knees Feeling drunk and feeling sick The ultimate disease I went looking for your shelter ‘Cause I jut needed some Healing and compassion But all was said and done Feels like home Feels like home

LOVE HATE LOVE lyrics by Mark Steiner Well it was Monday - the day that we met Or was it Tuesday? Well now I just forget And then came Wednesday, but you were long gone Now it's Sunday, and it just feels all kinds of wrong It was Thursday, the day that you came right back And it was Friday when we woke up in the sack Saturday was the day you drank up all my beer Along came Sunday - again you disappeared Do you hate me because I was born? Do you love me because you were just bored Do you love me because I had self-respect Do you hate me now that I'm just a defect reject ©2019, 2024 Mark Steiner / Stagger Home Music

THE FUCK-UP lyrics by Mark Steiner Each time you invite me for a drink Somehow my money disappears And every time you give me a little wink Somehow my eyes well up with tears Every time you invite me to your bed Somehow I end up on the floor And each time you leave and go to work I wake up feeling like I am such a whore At the end of the day, I'm just a fuck-up And you wonder why I'm such a fuck-up Sometimes you treat me like a man And I feel like I can be on top But most times you treat me like a dog And I know that this will never stop At the end of the day, I'm just a fuck-up And you wonder why I'm such a fuck-up ©2019 Mark Steiner / Stagger Home Music

Monster 03:10
MONSTER lyrics by Mark Steiner My eyes are closing Dead weight upon my chest Draws me deep into this darkness I just want to get some rest See the horizon, lights in the sky City’s on fire, end of the night Everything is over Everywhere is nowhere Burning from the inside Hungry for a feast A silent scream into the void Won’t scare away the beast Careful what you wish for What you find is yours to keep Try to swim, just don’t drink of me If you should taste me in your sleep See the horizon, lights in the sky City’s on fire, end of the night Everything is over Everywhere is nowhere As we fall, are we dreaming? Are we trapped in this feeling? As we fall, are we screaming? Are we trapped on the ceiling? And I’m waiting for you And I hunger for you It’s just the monster (Do you think I’m a monster?) The monster waiting for you Make it go away Make me go away Try to make me disappear I’m just a monster Make it (me) go away ©2023, 2024 Mark Steiner / Stagger Home Music

Float 04:27
FLOAT lyrics by Mark Steiner A broken fountain in the park Driving lessons in the rain Drinking instant coffee We try to kill the pain The dogs like children are running, running free Wilted flowers stashed in the pantry Yet somehow we’re both still breathing Keeping ourselves sane We were drifting From a shipwreck lost at sea But you said something Which kept us laughing And almost set us free Skipping stones on water As we danced into the morning light Thought that I was drowning When the day turned into night The bridge of glass was shattered The elevator plummeted down A cloister void of spirits As the blue lights scream and howl We were floating Above the waves lost at sea But you said something Which got me weeping You tried to set me free We’re still drifting On some raft lost somewhere out at sea So I said something To keep you laughing To try to set you free Now we’re floating Beneath the waves somewhere out at sea But you said something Which kept me laughing And finally set us free ©2022 Mark Steiner / Stagger Home Music

HANG ON! (Twin Flames) Lyrics by Mark Steiner Did you see my fire as we were going down Felt like we were flying ‘til we hit the ground I could see your fire, recognized your flame And I could feel your heat - you could feel my shame ‘Cause I’ve been waiting for reasons For too long, for so long And you’ve been waiting for reasons Of your own, for too long, so long, so long Hang on tight now, hold on tight now to me Hang on tight now - Let’s hit the stars Stepped into my car so I let you drive With you behind the wheel we both felt so alive We drove into the dark dancing soul to soul Destination unknown until we lost control Well you’ve been waiting for reasons For too long, for so long And I’ve been waiting for reasons Of my own, for too long Hang on tight now, hold on tight now to me Hang on tight now - We’re both on fire We both survived the crash and we made our amends Let’s leave that wreck behind and hit the road again Keep your fire burning - we can drive your car Hang on tight now - let’s hit the stars We’ve been waiting for reasons For too long, for so long, for too long We’ve waited for no reasons or our own for too long, for so long Hang on tight now, hold on tight now to me Hang on tight now - We’re both on fire Hang on tight now, hold on tight now to me Stay the night now - Let’s hit the stars

Syn 06:32

about

Trauma. Addiction. Heartache. Depression. Recovery. Sobriety. Make no bones about it. Mark Steiner sure doesn’t. The fact that this once decadent Norwegian-American ruffian has been clean and sober since April 2021 has, almost ironically, resulted in the successful development of this new album, “BLACK HOLE.”

Recorded during the pandemic summer of 2021, this collection of songs marks the first official full-length release by Mark Steiner & His Problems since the LP "Saudade" was first launched in late 2014. Their latest single, “Hang On! (Twin Flames)” was released on Friday 27. October 2023, supplemented with a now critically-acclaimed music video by filmmaker Jean De Oliveira which has been listed as one of top 12 music videos of 2023 by the highly respected Norwegian national publication Ballade...

And now, after years in development, the “BLACK HOLE” LP has finally been launched as a digital album, and is now also available in physical format as a limited edition compact disc.!

Perhaps more dirty and swampy than everything Steiner has released since his days with his former NYC band Piker Ryan's Folly prior to his post-9/11 departure, this new album features a new gang of ex-pats living in Oslo. American drummer Ted Parsons, (known best for his work with Prong, Swans, Godflesh, Jesu, Metallic Taste of Blood, Keith Levene and Killing Joke,) certainly packs his rhythmic punches, while British-Italian Leon Muraglia (Orange & Blue, Radio 9, Salvatore, OMD) lends some sultry bass riffs and London guitarist Romek Paluch-Edwards adds definitive counter-point to Steiner's Fender baritone. Norwegian chanteuse Ingunn Holmen debuts as Steiner’s latest problem, rendering a new balance with her beautiful, resonant vocals. And like a ghost from some past life, special guest Line Saus adds her own haunting voice from her home in Tromsø, while returning veteran problems Czech violinist Pavel Cingl and Danish wingman Thomas Borge contribute sounds from their decadent stomping grounds in Copenhagen and Prague respectively.
“BLACK HOLE”, both as a song and as an album title, is a brutally honest, dark and personal - yet universally relatable - journey where intersecting tortured souls slowly clamber up from the abyss of post- modern human struggle.

about

Mark Steiner & His Problems Oslo, Norway

Mark Steiner is a well-known figure in Oslo’s music underworld, and he’s been around in Norway for so long that many assume that he is Norwegian. He is not. This ex-New Yorker is a wandering scoundrel who one might find hanging out in the shadowy corners of a pub at closing time. A international musical vagrant who might walk the streets with Stuart Staples, Nick Cave, and Rowland S. Howard... ... more
